World leaders in asset management carry out less maintenance. A statement which sounds farfetched but when an organisation properly Engineers their asset management programme, they do the RIGHT Maintenance in the most efficient way and also deploy CM to drive the proactive culture. Many operators are doing too much maintenance without actually knowing why the maintenance is being carried out i.e. OEM recommended tasks are automatically assigned to the equipment without evaluation. Also, many tasks state ‘check pump’ or ‘check filter’, which is very dependent on the engineer carrying out the task and their interpretation.

An equipment maintenance plan identifies what tasks should be deployed/implemented to most effectively manage the failure modes present in assets.
Best practice programs plan and schedule at least 80% of the daily tasks to drive efficiency and proactive work. It is proven that planned work is 50% more efficient and causes less infant mortality than reactive.
A high percentage of daily work hours should be Planned Maintenance (PM), Condition Monitoring and also follow up work created from those inspections.
